Grindleton Recreation Ground Charity

The Grindleton Recreation Ground Charity (Charity Commission number 223174) was set up in 1972 to provide a Recreation Ground and activities for the inhabitants of Grindleton and the surrounding area. They raise funds annually to maintain and equip the area. The committee consists of 15 people, many are representatives of local village groups such as the Church, schools, sports clubs and the Brownies, plus some elected members.

The playground is being continually upgraded and we provide a children’s play area and also a multi-use games area for 5-a-side football, tennis, basketball, and netball. The football pitch is also owned by the charity although the football team undertakes most of the maintenance.

In 2012 the Charity led the Pavilion Project, which raised around £450,000 to build Grindleton Pavilion which comprises a large hall, smaller meeting room and kitchen, as well as changing rooms. We are very grateful to all those who provided grants, made donations and raised funds.

The Recreation Ground Charity leads on various fund raising and village activities including Sports Day, Bonfire Night and the biannual Galloping Gourmet.
